General Comments:

This was a very lively competition with enthusiastic activity from many stations. It proved to be a very close run event, with only 39 points between the first four staions. Persistance through the "silent hours" certainly paid off - but it is noticeable from the results table, that few stations had the "staying power" between 0400 and 0559! Well done though to Chichester High School CCF who was the highest scorer in this particular phase.

Log Sheets:

I received check logs from Maj M Foster and the Senior Net Monitor; these, alongside my own, enabled a thorough cross-check of all your log sheets. Recording contacts and Calculating scores was generally good but there were some howlers. Several stations were guilty of tuning up on a frequency and attempting to set up a net when one was already in progress. Watch out next year - PENALTIES will be invoked!

Data:

Only one station claimed a Data message. Well done to F74 who exchanged with the Senior Net Monitor.

Specific Comments:

Maj M Foster - One station ignored my advice that there was already a net in progress and continued to try and exchange messages. I then visited Devon ACF's location and called the offending station from there - they had no trouble hearing me! Other favourites from the Voice Procedure: And a literary reference: Overall, though, my congratulations to all those who took part and I was very pleased to hear so many stations, even in the early hours of the morning.

Lt Col M Vokes - (Who keeps a watchful eye on several CCF and ACF detachments in Southern England)... I notice my lot from *edited* had no contacts between 0200 and 0639... I shall have words!
Here are the sheets for Chichester High School CCF, camping in Elstead Common Training Area. Charlotte and Carly, two quite young ladies, who had climbed up a fir tree to tie up the centre junction board of a dipole antenna. A creditable performance and very good improvisation for a mast, given that neither girl had really taken part in a competition before.

Cumbria ACF - The detachment set up on Warcop Training Area. Sadly of the anticipated team of nine, only three (all classified signallers) emerged on the day. Nevertheless they worked hard and enjoyed the competition.

The Vyne School CCF - We were on Barton Stacey Training Area from Friday evening as part of a Contingent weekend exercise. The four figure start number was a good idea as it kept us guessing and added interest.

Summary

Well done, everyone. To win is great, but to take part - and enjoy doing so - is far more important
