DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME

Since it began in 1956, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award has been dedicated to the personal development of young people from all backgrounds. With the widest reach of any UK youth charity, 275,000 young people (30,000 are from disadvantaged backgrounds) undertake inspiring DofE programmes to achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Awards every year.
You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you're going for Gold).
These sections are:
- Volunteering - helping someone, your community or the environment
- Physical - becoming fitter through sport, dance or fitness activities
- Skills - developing existing talents or trying something new
- Expedition - planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey
- Residential (Gold only) - staying and working away from home as part of a team
The length of time you have to spend on each section depends on the level of programme you're doing. For more information about the award scheme, please visit
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award website
The signalling syllabus and progressions can be used for both the Skills, Service and Residential sections of the award. If you are intending to use the courses run at RSS Blandford as part of your award, please make sure you bring your log book with you!
